Edit a Cloze Document
To edit the current Cloze Document at any time, click
in the Document ribbon tab.
You may be asked for a password (see Security below).
Type in a suitable Title and then type or Copy/Paste text into the main box.
Word Removal
In the main box, select a section of text and then click Remove Selected.
To create a blank, your selection must contain:
- Whole words only.
- Up to 3 words.
- Up to 40 characters.
- No punctuation or symbols.
- No new paragraphs.
Alternatively, click Express Remove to automatically Remove every [X] words, or words containing a certain letter pattern.
Removed text is colored gray. To restore, select it and click Replace Text.
Insert Picture
To insert a picture at the current position, click
:
Browse - browse or search your picture files.
Photo - take a photo.
Drag the picture to move it around.
To resize the picture, select it and then drag the green handles.
Suggestions
Specify which words (if any) will be suggested by the Predictor:
- Removed Words - suggest removed words. If set to All, you can also choose whether to Dim Used Answers. If set to X, the correct word and X-1 other removed words will be shown.
- Custom Words - suggest the words you specify. For each removed word, select it, and then add your words at the bottom of the page.
- None - nothing will be suggested.
Blanks
Choose how the removed words will look as blanks:
- Standard - all blanks are the same length (6 underscores).
- Large - all blanks are the same length (10 underscores).
- Actual Word Length - each blank is the correct length.
Security
To password-protect this Cloze Document, click Lock.
Type the current password in the white box and then select which features to password-protect.
If the box is gray, a password hasn't been set yet. To add/change the password, click Set up password.
Print Worksheet
To use the Cloze Document as a physical worksheet, click Print Worksheet.
Choose whether to list the missing words or not.
Save As Template
To save the Cloze Document as a read-only template, make sure you're in Edit View and then click
in the Document ribbon tab.
This prevents the file being overwritten. When a student fills out their answers and saves, their work will be saved as a copy.
