WorkSpaces
A WorkSpace is a flexible planning tool, providing a canvas for noting ideas.
Place cells anywhere and fill them with pictures and text or insert Voice Notes. Link cells with lines to form mind maps, storyboards, and diagrams.
It's easy to switch between a WorkSpace and the current Document using the bottom tabs. WorkSpace content can also be exported to a more directly accessible form.
WorkSpaces can be used solo or collectively as a class. Teachers can produce exercises about sorting, sequencing, and idea gathering - see LearningGrids for inspiration.
Create
To create a WorkSpace, click
in the Smart Tab ribbon tab and choose WorkSpace (or click New WorkSpace in the New & Recent window).
There are several template designs to choose from.
A WorkSpace can have multiple tabs. These are displayed along the right side of the board. Click
to add a new blank space.
Right-click a space's tab to Duplicate, Delete, or Rename it.
Cells
Cells can contain text and a picture.
To add a cell, you can:
- Drag
from the left toolbar and onto the space. - Click
in the left toolbar and then drag any cell onto the space. - Double-click any empty area.
- Draw a line to any empty area.
Write in Cells
Double-click a cell to start writing in it.
While writing, these icons appear in the cell's top-right corner:
Picture - change the cell's picture.
Keyboard - show the on-screen keyboard.
Predictor - show word predictions.
Voice Notes
To add a Voice Note, click
in the left toolbar and drag onto the space.
To record:
- Double-click the Voice Note or when selected click
in the lower toolbar. - Click
to start recording and then
to stop. - Click
to hear your recording. - Click Done to finish.
The Voice Note will change to
. Click, right-click, or when selected click
in the lower toolbar to play it.
Selected Cells
Click a cell to select it.
To select multiple cells, hold the Ctrl (Mac: ⌘) key while clicking them (or drag a selection box around them).
You can then:
- Drag the square handles to resize.
- Drag the round handles to draw a line.
- Use the tools below.
Pictures
To add a picture to a selected cell, click
in the lower toolbar or click
in the cell's top-right corner:
Browse - browse or search your picture files.
Photo - take a photo.
Delete Picture - clear the current picture.
You can drag pictures directly onto the space from the Picture Browser, your device, or the internet.
To change the background of the space itself, click
with no cells selected.
Color
To change the color of a selected cells background, text, or border click
in the lower toolbar.
To change the color of a selected line click
in the lower toolbar.
To change the color of the space's background, click
with no cells selected.
Sound
To speak the contents of a cell, right-click it or when selected click
in the lower toolbar.
If right-clicking is tricky, use Sound Shift instead. To enable Sound Shift click
in the lower toolbar, once enabled selecting a cell will speak its contents. Clicking
again will disable Sound Shift.
Delete
To delete selected cells, click
in the lower toolbar (or press the Backspace or Delete key).
